The Christmas story

Long ago about 2000 years when King Herod ruled Judea. God sent the Angel Gabriel to a young girl in Nazareth. The girl’s name was Mary. The angel said to Mary “Peace be with you, you will be pregnant with a son by the Holy Spirit and you will name him Jesus the son of God”. Joseph was worried when he found out that Mary was expecting a baby before their marriage took off. His name will be Jesus, which means the saviour. Mary and Joseph traveled on a donkey to Bethlehem. When they reached Bethlehem they had trouble finding rooms. At the time all the rooms were sold out and the only room that was available for them was a shed where the animals had lived. Mary gave birth to baby Jesus the son of God. Jesus’ bed was a manger where the animals ate their hay from. The angel said “Glory to God in the highest peace with the people all around the world”. The shepherds went to Bethlehem to see Joseph. The three wise men loved studying stars. When the Three Wise Men had gone an Angel appeared in Joseph’s dream and said “Get up, take Mary and Baby Jesus and escape to Egypt and stay there. King Herod is planning to kill baby Jesus. When King Herod died the angel said to Joseph that they could go back to Galilee. But when Joseph had heard that king Herod son had been king of Judea Joseph was too scared to go back.

Matariki dictogloss

Matariki is known for a cluster of stars as the pleiades rising in the mid winter. It is the start of new year. Matariki literally means the eyes of God or little eyes.

According to Ranginui the Sky father and Papatuanuku the Earth Mother were separated by their children. The God of wind Tawhirimatea became so angry, that he tore his eyes out and threw them up into the heavens.

Matariki is a time for remembering the ones that have died in the last year. It was also a happy time to plant crops and kumara. It is also a time to enjoy seafood and birds. It is a time to dance, sing and feast on the yummy foods.

Matariki celebrates the past and today. It was once popular but in the 1940’s they stopped the celebrations. In the early 2000’s Matariki started to become popular again. Only a few people became a part of the Matariki celebrations. Flying kites is a special feature of Matariki. According to ancient custom, the reason why kites were used was that kites fluttered close to the stars.

Umu recount

Planning space

Smoky, Fire, Smelly, Taro, Pig,

Last Friday we had an Umu. We had an Umu because it was Samoan language week. It was also a sad day because it was Miss Haslems last day teaching us but I don't really care because we will see her when we go to camp.
When we went down to the hall after morning tea it was really smoky so I had to put my t-shirt near my nose and it was a bit smelly. When we came back up to class from watching the Umu we had a little game of Kahoot with Miss Haslem. When we finished our game of Kahoot we did a little bit of maths and compass was with Miss Haslem and that is the group I was in. When we finished maths the bell rang for lunch time. After the bell rang everybody in the school had to sit near the pole that the flags go on when it is a special language week.
After everyone sang the Samoan himi Mr T said that we will be going in the hall to eat the Umu. When we got to the hall Mr Tyrell said a prayer in Samoan. Mr Hadnett said that we are going to go class by class starting in the room 6 kids. I was shocked when It tasted the same as how us Tongans cook it.
I was a bit angry when the rugby league was cancelled because of the Umu but at the same time it was kind of yummy. After lunch everyone went back to their classes and did some learning. But my class and room 4 had a teacher that was leaving on friday and both classes started to cry but room 4 were crying more than us.
Before we went out to the top courts to be picked up we gave our teachers a card and a box of roses which is chocolate. Then Miss Haslem gave us a packet of goodie bags. Even room 4 got a goodie bag from Miss LatuLevi who is Tongan and Niuean. She is from the same two cultures as me.
When I went home I was a bit sad but I was still happy that school was over and it was a long weekend andWe have Monday off.

We have Monday off.

On Friday the school had an Umu for Samoan language also it was Miss Haslems last day teaching us so I have wrote a Doc on the Umu and Miss Haslem

My dear Santa letter

Dear Santa I've been really naughty this year at home and at school. The bad things that I have been doing are talking back, getting in trouble too much, not doing a lot of work and annoying my brothers a lot because they are playing on their P.S.4. They might have been annoying to me before. Please come to my place Santa, because you’re the childhood favourite for a Christmas present. All I want for Christmas is the new P.S.5 and a diary book so I can draw. Please Santa I won’t be naughty in 2021. I am going to do much more work at school and try not to be naughty. By Sisiliah

This is my naughty letter to Santa. I am really sorry for being really naughty this year.

Blog profile

Hi my name is Sisiliah and I go to Christ the King Catholic School. My favourite colour is red. I sometimes like to walk to school, as it gives me energy. I like to come to school everyday because I love to have an education and to learn new knowledge.

I am really good at sports but mostly rugby. My challenges for this year is to keep up with everything I do and to work hard. My goal this year is to make it in every sports and to represent my lovely my school this year.

This year I am looking forward to being the best person that I can be. I am looking forward to being the greatest girl that I can be so that my family can be proud.
